Who should consider attending Renaissance High School?
Renaissance is open to any student, but the main criteria that parents and students should consider are the three areas of emphasis: pre-law and leadership, research and medical sciences, and international studies. If a student doesn’t have a strong interest in one of these areas, then Renaissance may well not be the right program.
Will busing be provided?
Yes. As with other magnet programs, Renaissance High School students will be provided bus transportation. As with other high schools, parking will be available for students who wish to drive to school.
What bell schedule will Renaissance use?
Renaissance will use the A/B block schedule used by Meridian High and Mountain View. With this schedule, students attend each class for 90 minutes every other day.
Will there be regular school lunch?
Yes. Renaissance will have a cafeteria like other district high schools where students will be able to purchase lunch or eat lunch that they have brought from home.
Is the International Baccalaureate Program more difficult than Advanced Placement courses?
No. The International Baccalaureate (IB) programme is on par with Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The main difference is that with AP courses the student’s final assessment is a test. In the IB programme, students demonstrate their ability through written work, portfolios, and presentations.
What if I am admitted to Renaissance and after attending decide it isn’t for me?
Students can always return to their home high school. However, students should consider this opportunity seriously and go into the program expecting that it will be the right fit for their academic, professional and life goals.
Can I participate in athletics?
Renaissance will not offer an athletic program. However, students will be able to return to their home high school to participate in sports.
